Date Sold 8/24/2014 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 15 1953 Re-Release (re-titled "Return of Captain America" for this re-release) Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) Captain America, the 1944 Elmer Clifton & John English Marvel Comics (at the time known as "Atlas Comics"!) comic book superhero crime fighting fantasy serial ("Based on the Character appearing in Captain America Comics"; "A Republic Serial in 15 Chapters") starring Dick Purcell (in the title role as Captain America; he died just a few months after shooting finished), Lorna Gray, Lionel Atwill, Charles Trowbridge, George J. Lewis, and John Hamilton. Note that this was the very first Marvel Comics character to be turned into a movie, and we don't know how faithful the adaptation was (in the movie, Captain America uses a gun, and we don't remember him ever doing that in the comics!). THOUGH ONLY EIGHT OF THE STILLS ARE PICTURED, THE HIGH BIDDER ON THIS LOT WILL RECEIVE 15 STILLS FROM THIS MOVIE (but realize that on some of these lots with 9 or more stills there may be a few duplicates, mostly on post-1960 lots)! We realize there is an element of gambling to this, but we made only a small effort to find the best stills in these lots, and, if you have any willingness to gamble at all, you may find that you get some great stills that were not pictured!
