A Vintage German Hardcover Book (measures 9 3/4" x 12 1/2" [25 x 32 cm]; 154 pages) (Learn More) Olympia 1932, the 1932 German sports history book chronicling the 1932 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, California, featuring many black & white and color images from the games, including a section at the back about the 1932 Winter Olympics held at Lake Placid. This is a REALLY incredible book! Virtually all of the photos are "tipped in" (meaning they are literally glued onto the pages one by one), and there are quite a few color ones. It gives total in-depth coverage to all of the Olympic events, including all of the countries. The book is entirely in German, and we don't read German, but it seems clear that while the German entrants in the events are covered well, it does not appear that they are given excess coverage, and there is substantial coverage of all the U.S. entrants, including the black African American ones, especially Phil Edwards, the great runner who dominated many of the events. There is also major coverage of the women events at these games, and there is even a great full-color picture of Duke Kahanamoku, the former Olympic swimming champion (and legendary Hawaiian surfer), who was a visitor at these games. We have pictured many of the interior 2-page spreads, which give you a sense of how nice this book is, but they really don't do it justice! Note that this book was published with a paper dust jacket, but it is often found without it. Important Added Info: Note that this book is not only rare, but this exact example has the original paper dust jacket! It also is in the original mailing carton, which likely explains why the paper jacket survived. We have auctioned two other examples of this book, but neither had the paper jacket. Note: We have 11 images of the books in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 11 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 1. Note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Condition: very good. There are a few light brown dot stains scattered on some of the interior pages and the dust jacket has some tiny tears and tiny paper loss in the top and bottom. But otherwise, the book is in really nice condition, and as noted above, it is the first one we have ever auctioned in the dust jacket, and it even has the original mailing carton!
