Important Added Info: Note that until 6 years ago, we had never seen an example of this poster. In 2012, we were consigned this linenbacked poster, and it arrived to us right before the auction began, and we were told it was in excellent condition, and we quickly looked it over and it seemed to be so, except for tiny surface paper loss in Hepburn's large image, and we described it as being in "very good to fine" condition. The purchaser of the poster stored it rolled in a tube all these years, and in 2018, he consigned it to a different auction, which closely examined it, and discovered that the bottom right small panel of the poster had been recreated. Obviously, this was a very major mistake on our part, caused by our receiving it at the last second (although of course this does not excuse it). However, unlike every other auction, we have a "lifetime guarantee" on all we auction, and therefore we immediately refunded the consignor the price that he had paid, even though six years had passed. Now we are re-auctioning the poster, correctly described, and it is still the only example of the poster we have ever auctioned, and while it does have the significant defect described above, that area has been wonderfully replaced, and the poster would look great displayed in public, perhaps in a dance studio, a restaurant, or a museum! However, do not bid on the poster unless you can accept that the bottom right section was missing, and that it was expertly recreated.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster was printed in four sections, two large ones and two small ones, and the bottom right small section was missing. It starts in the bottom center of the poster running up Hepburn's legs in the full-length image of her, and runs across from the knees of the large image across the waist of the small image. So all of that lower right area was recreated. The poster also had a tiny bit of surface paper loss in the bridge of Hepburn's nose in the large headshot and some smudges scattered along the top. The person who backed the poster did a really nice job of recreating the missing area (see our image), and restoring the rest of the poster, and it will display well on the new owner's wall, but please read the above carefully and look at our super-sized image before bidding on this extremely rare poster.
