An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Hamlet, the 1948 (released in the U.S. in 1949) Laurence Olivier (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) English Denmark royalty family relationship tragedy melodrama (winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the play "by William Shakespeare") starring Laurence Olivier (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Hamlet), Eileen Herlie (as Gertrude), Basil Sydney, Felix Aylmer, Jean Simmons (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Ophelia), Norman Wooland, Terence Morgan (as Laertes), Stanley Holloway, Peter Cushing, Esmond Knight, Anthony Quayle, Harcourt Williams, and John Laurie NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. The poster had creases, scuffs, and tiny tears down most of the vertical foldline, and to a lesser amount across the middle horizontal foldline, and a much lesser amount in the top and bottom foldlines. There was tiny paper loss at the crossfolds. There were creases, tears, and some small areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was not very well backed, but you can see some signs of the paint restoration down the center of the poster and on the horizontal folds, and the restorer did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster. If I owned this poster, I would surely have it re-backed by a talented professional, and since the most significant defects are along the vertical foldline, which are almost completely in background areas, the poster will look great after proper re-backing, but there will not be a lot of paint restoration in the actual image areas.
