A Laminated Original Vintage Theatrical One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 39" [69 x 99 cm]) (Learn More) Invaders From Mars, the classic 1953 William Cameron Menzies (who also did the production design) science fiction (sci-fi) alien thriller ("From Out of Space.... Came hordes of green monsters!!"; "The Martians are coming!"; "Photographed in Color") starring Helena Carter, Arthur Franz, Jimmy Hunt, Leif Erickson, Hillary Brooke, Morris Ankrum, Max Wagner, Bill Phipps, Milburn Stone, and Janine Perreau NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been laminated! It is quite likely that there is no way to reverse this process. However, I have seen many posters and lobby cards that have been laminated for over 20 years, and the lamination does not hurt the items in any way (and some of the posters were laminated as much as 40 years ago, so it certainly seems that if it were going to damage the item, it would have happened by now!), plus it seems to completely protect them, while allowing them to be easily displayed with no fear of damage. HOWEVER, PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU WANT TO PURCHASE A LAMINATED ITEM! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 27" x 39" [69 x 99 cm]. Note that there is a 1955 re-release one-sheet for this classic sci-fi movie that looks very similar to THIS original release poster, and is often mistakenly sold as original (to complicate matters, the re-release has the original 1953 NSS number in the bottom right corner, but has a 1955 date in the bottom left corner, but that wrong NSS number increases the chances of it being mistakenly sold as an original). There are those who claim that the poster with the 1955 date is a "1953 second printing" with a typo in that date, but that makes no sense to us, because if they were reprinting the poster in 1953, there would be absolutely no reason to change the copyright date, while there would be every reason to change the copyright date if it was printed in 1955 (if you think about it, the only reason to change the date would be if the "mistake" poster was printed FIRST, and then it was "corrected", and nobody is arguing for that!). People who try to defend the "second printing" theory say that the movie was not re-released in 1955, but certainly, it is extremely likely the movie was still playing in Saturday matinees (or on double bills) in 1955, so there would still be a need for posters at that time. Recently, we uncovered proof that there WAS a 1955 re-release! We were consigned a still that is copyrighted 1955, and it says "National Pictures Corporation", and it still has "Edward Alperson Presents", which would indicate that he purchased the rights to the movie from 20th Century-Fox, and redistributed it himself in 1955. There are a few subtle differences between the two posters (the biggest one is that the "EDWARD L. ALPERSON" at the top of the poster is in yellow on the 1953 release, but is in white on the 1955 release). The poster offered here is 100% surely the original 1953 poster (which is more rare than the 1955 re-release)! Note that this laminated poster comes to us from a very longtime collector who, decades ago, had most of his collection laminated. As we said above, even though it has been a very long time since this was done, the posters this collector consigned (11 one-sheets and 8 inserts, in 19 separate auctions) likely look just as they did when he first had them laminated, so they certainly can be displayed and enjoyed. But they all have to be sent in very large flat packages (the one-sheets approximately 29" x 43", and the inserts approximately 16" x 38"), so bear this added expense in mind before bidding. Condition: good. Prior to lamination, part of the top and bottom blank borders was trimmed off, no doubt so that the laminated poster could fit in a frame afterwards. It had small paper loss at the top crossfold and pretty minor fold and border wear. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU WANT TO PURCHASE A LAMINATED ITEM! Learn More about condition grades
