An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Trapeze, the 1956 Carol Reed romantic love triangle circus-performer high wire big top thriller ("The wonder show of the world!"; "It Happens There In Mid-Air... In All Its Fire, Flesh And Fury!"; "High high high above them all! ...In excitement! ...in spectacle! ...in fire, flesh and fury!"; based on the novel by Max Catto) starring Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis, Gina Lollobrigida, Katy Jurado, Thomas Gomez, John Puleo, and Minor Watson. Note that star Burt Lancaster had been a circus performer for several years prior to becoming an actor, and he had done both trapeze and high wire stunts in the circus, and he is supposed to have done almost all of his own stunts in this movie! Also note that the movie has the characters attempting to perform a "triple" which they say had only been performed by a small number of people. In actuality, trapeze artists at the time tried to do quadruple jumps, but they couldn't have used that in the movie because it was so difficult to perform! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has something VERY UNUSUAL about it. What is that? The person who owned it had a home movie theater, and they had a large collection of one-sheets, and they would display them when they showed the movie, and they needed a way to protect the posters while they were being handled, and keep them from being damaged while on display. He came up with a solution that we have not seen before. He had a thin sheet of laminate plastic placed over the BACK of each one-sheet, BUT NOT ON THE FRONT (as is normally done when laminating the poster). If you have ever seen "laminated" posters, they are often covered with very thick plastic material on both sides. THE LAMINATE PLASTIC USED HERE IS A THIN MATERIAL. While we have never seen this before, it actually works well! The front of the poster is no different then it was, but the plastic on the back greatly helps protect the poster from tears or other defects (this is the same principle that was used decades ago when they would kraftback posters moving from theater to theater, and as with kraftbacking, the posters with this laminate plastic on the back CAN be folded as normal, as this poster was). WE DON'T KNOW HOW EASY OR HARD IT WOULD BE TO REMOVE THE PLASTIC FROM THE BACK (although there are a few where the plastic is separating, indicating it surely CAN be done), but the buyer of this poster will have two options. They can either keep the poster exactly as is, and if they display it, no one will even know about the plastic laminate on the back, or they can have a restorer remove it. Either way, DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THAT IT HAS THIS ON THE BACK (but NOT on the front). Condition: good. The poster has laminate plastic on the back only (see above: but NOT on the front). It has some pinholes, creases, defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along parts of some edges.
