In her early movies, she mostly had minor supporting roles in comedies, and she was billed as "Carol", but she added the "e" as she became a major star. One of her greatest successes was Twentieth Century, where she played a girl who has never acted, who becomes a great star under the tutelage of Svengali-like John Barrymore. Some of her other movies include: To Be or Not To Be, My Man Godfrey (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Mr. and Mrs. Smith. In the early 1930s, she married William Powell, but they amicably divorced, and several years later, she had a torrid love affair with Clark Gable, but while they were set to be married, she died tragically in a 1942 plane crash when she was at the height of her career. She was just 33 years old. AND Travis Banton was an American costume designer from the 1920s to the 1950s. He is perhaps best known for his long collaboration with actress Marlene Dietrich and director Josef von Sternberg. He is generally considered one of the most important Hollywood costume designers of the golden age. Some of his movies include: Wings, Cleopatra and The Scarlet Empress Important Added Info: Note that this is a CAMERA ORIGINAL negative, the actual film that was in the camera when the photographer shot the image. Our consignor knows this is from 1934, but does not know if it is connected to a movie. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. We have taken a scan of the negative as it appears, and also a special scan of the negative that shows the "positive image". We will provide the winning bidder of this auction with that positive image scan. Note that every one of these 365 auctions have had their transparencies and/or negatives scanned expertly. This auction contains that scan with the "eMoviePoster.com" watermark over it. Condition: good to very good. There is some small glue residue on the back of parts of the top and bottom borders, where the negative was attached to something (see our images).
