An Original Vintage Unfolded War Poster (measures 12" x 19 1/4") (Learn More)

After A Zeppelin Raid in London, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) War Bond ("'But mother had done nothing wrong, had she, daddy?'"; "Prevent this in New York. Invest in Liberty Bonds") encouraging people to invest in war bonds, and featuring Louis Raemaekers art of a grieving father and daughter next to covered body in a hospital bed. This art was first used in a 1916 issue of Century magazine and was part of the Barron Collier Series of Patriotic Cartoons. Note that Germany did carry our airship raids against Britain but weather conditions and night flying often resulted in bombs being dropped miles away from the intended target. Although the military effect of the raids was small, they caused widespread alarm and civilian casualties made the Zeppelins an object of hatred (they were dubbed "baby-killers"). Airships made about 51 bombing raids on Britain during the war, resulting in 557 dead and 1358 injured.
Artist: Louis Raemaekers

Condition: good to very good. There is a 2" V-shaped tear in the text area at lower right. There are a few pinholes and small tears around the edges of the poster.
