Date Sold 4/14/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1947 Re-Release Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]; 12 pages) (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that many horror re-release pressbooks are only 4 pages long, but when Universal re-released their classic Frankenstein movie 16 years after its first release in 1947 (there had been a 1938 re-release in between), they prepared a really nice 12 page pressbook showing many cool ads, posters, and newspaper stories. They also included 4 pages at the center that had only combination ads for those theaters that were re-releasing Frankenstein with Dracula at the same time! Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It has creases, scuffs, and surface paper loss on the fold across the cover, and it was also lightly folded vertically at one time. It has some creases and scuffs around the edges of the cover. The back cover has stains scattered in the top blank border. There are some creases scattered throughout the pressbook (see our images).
