If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: As explained below, this poster was originally printed as a Paramount poster, but the movie distribution rights switched to United Artists after it was printed, so the previous examples of this poster we have auctioned have snipes over the Paramount areas (see below for a full explanation). But THIS poster must have been used by a theater, and they didn't want the references to Paramount on it, so they either cut out or painted over the printed area at middle left that said "A Paramount Picture". Note that this is a REALLY fascinating movie poster! I had always known that Paramount Pictures released the very first Hopalong Cassidy movie in 1935, and that in 1942, Paramount studios sold the rights to a number of its 1942 and 1943 movies to United Artists (this related to shortages caused by the U.S. entering World War II), and this included this just made Hopalong Cassidy movie, and the later Hopalong Cassidy movies. So those were released by United Artists, and not Paramount. But this poster has something I don't recall ever seeing in a major studio release! The poster was entirely printed as a Paramount poster, with the Paramount logo in the lower right and "A Paramount Picture" in the middle left as well. But because of the deal where Paramount sold the rights to this movie to United Artists, after the poster was printed, they printed a very large studio-issued corrective credits snipe, which not only covered the bottom right credits area, and they also put a small snipe over the Paramount credit at middle left that reads "Released thru United Artists"! I have never seen or heard of ANY studio doing this with any movie in the middle of its release (printing posters for one studio and then switching to another), other than this single title, and it fills in a fascinating gap in the history of this beloved series! We also auctioned a one-sheet from this title that had been printed as a Paramount one-sheet and had similar snipes. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had a printed area at middle left that read "A Paramount Picture". As explained above, the theater that used this poster either cut that out or painted over it. So when this poster was being linenbacked, the restorer chose to paint in a blank background in that area, rather than to try to recreate the words. The poster also has the large snipe at bottom right, and the restorer left it as is. The poster also has restoration on the folds and the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking (because of the cut out or painted over area described above). The poster will display well on the new owner's wall, but please read the above carefully and look at our super-sized image before bidding on it. Learn More about condition grades
