An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 41") (Learn More) The Search, the 1948 Fred Zinnemann (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Swiss/U.S. post-World War II (WWII) orphan/soldier relationship melodrama ("Everybody agrees MGM's The Search is a wonderful motion picture!"; about an American soldier in post World War II Berlin, who helps a lost Czechoslovakian boy find his mother, and deeply bonds with him) starring Montgomery Clift (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; his first released movie!), Aline MacMahon, Jarmila Novotna, Wendell Corey, and Ivan Jandl. Note that this was Montgomery Clift's first released movie (technically Red River was shot first, but it was released after this film), and MGM had no idea of how audiences would react to his new style of male hero, and so he was not even pictured on the posters! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had tiny paper loss at the bottom two crossfolds, and small paper loss at the top crossfold, and a small area of paper loss in the right of the top foldline, below the first "N" of "NOVOTNA". The poster had creases, smudges, and small areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. The poster had some sort of snipe in the top right corner in the blank white area that was removed. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
