Date Sold 8/18/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 24 1/2" x 37" [62 x 94 cm]) (Learn More) General Pershing Cables, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) Home Front poster ("No other organization since the world began has ever done such great constructive work with the efficiency, dispatch and understanding, often under adverse circumstances, than has been done in France by American Red Cross in the last six months.") encouraging people to support the American Red Cross, and featuring art of General "Black Jack" Pershing, with a glowing "quote" from him about how great the Red Cross is doing in France. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was mounted onto a thin linen with no excess (this was almost surely done soon after it was created). The poster was folded once in each direction and there are some smudges and scuffs along those folds. There are creases and tiny tears down the left blank border, with a few extending into the background below the red cross. There is a long diagonal crease in the lower right and three pieces of brown tape in the top border. The poster could be displayed and enjoyed just as it is, or certainly, it could be removed from the old linen and professionally backed. Learn More about condition grades
