An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 19 1/2" x 26" [50 x 66 cm]) (Learn More)

Plattsburg, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) Home Front poster ("Are you trained to do your share?"; "Are you trained to defend your country?"; "The Minute Men of to-day are going to Plattsburg") encouraging people to join volunteer pre-enlistment military training camps. The largest and best known camp was near Plattsburgh, New York. Note that the Plattsburgh in New York was named after Zephaniah Platt in 1785, and that over the years, it has often been misspelled as "Plattsburg", as it is in these posters (in fact, there is a Plattsburg, Missouri, that is named after the New York Plattsburgh, and that city's name was misspelled).
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this war poster, and only one in the last 7 years!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss in the bottom right corner extending into the corner of the black border and some small tears and small paper loss around the edges, with some creases and scuffs in the image and a fine horizontal crease at top left going into the chin and neck of the soldier. It had some tears and small paper loss around the edges of the image, more so in the bottom. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
