He was born in 1863 and was a stage actor for 20 years before he made his first movie at the age of 52! He was the quintessential stuffy Englishman, tall and distinguished with giant bushy eyebrows and a wonderful voice, and whenever a part called for someone like that, he was the first person Hollywood called for several decades. Some of his movies include: Little Lord Fauntleroy, Trouble in Paradise, Love Me Tonight, and scores of others. Smith passed away in 1948 at the age of 85. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a large collection of 1930s MGM portraits that we were consigned. Almost all of them are in wonderful condition, and we have seen very few of them before! All of them are offered in separate auctions.
