An Original 1923 Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Sappho (released in the U.S. in 1923 as "Mad Love"), the 1921 Dimitri Buchowetzki German/U.S. silent romantic love triangle melodrama ("The famous beauty of a thousand passions"; "The daring drama of a fascinating flirt"; a wild story of a woman who literally drives her boyfriend insane, and when his brother comes to find the woman who ruined him, he does not realize who she is, and she seduces him as well; eventually, he discovers the truth, and his brother escapes from the asylum and strangles her!) starring Pola Negri (in the title role as Dame Sappho), Alfred Abel, Xenia Desni, Ellinor Gynt, and Werner Krauss NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. The card had a tiny bit of its top blank border trimmed off. It had light stains in the top left background area and some pinholes and light stains around the edges. It had scuff marks in Negri's arm near her elbow and in the sleeve of the man's jacket. Overall, the card was in good condition prior to restoration. The card was "starch backed", which means that it was moistened with a special starch solution, attached to a backing, allowed to dry, and then the card had touch up while it was backed, and afterward, the backing was removed. The card was starch backed by a talented professional and restoration was performed to some of the above defects, but left alone the scuffs and smudges within the image, and did not address the trimming of the top blank border. You can see these defects, but the card displays pretty well. Please read our description above and look at our super-sized images before placing a bid on this rare lobby card.
