An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) Daddy Long Legs, the 1931 Alfred Santell romantic comedy ("From play by Jean Webster"; about a middle aged millionaire who meets an 18 year old girl in an orphanage, and he is in love with her, but restrains himself and sends her to college, but after several years, they fall in love) starring Janet Gaynor, Warner Baxter, Una Merkel, John Arledge, Claude Gillingwater, and Effie Ellsler. Note that this movie was based on a play and novel by Jean Webster from 1912. It was made into a silent movie in 1919 starring Mary Pickford, and was remade as this sound film, and then was significantly altered so that Shirley Temple could play the lead in "Curly Top" in 1935, and then was remade with Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron in 1955. Obviously, it is extremely unlikely that this plot will ever be used again, because in today's world, a story about a middle aged man falling in love with an 18 year old that he "adopts" is very inappropriate! We have never auctioned anything other than a window card, a jumbo lobby card, a regular lobby card, two stills, and a different example of this glass slide from this movie until we received this second glass slide! Note that this is from an incredible collection of 76 glass slides that were recently discovered! Almost all of them are from 1931 to 1933 (with a very few from before and after). We are auctioning them in 76 separate auctions, and then there will be no more from this amazing find (except for a few duplicated ones, which we will auction at a later time). Not only are many wonderful titles included, but many of the slides are in remarkable condition, and quite a few of them do not have any showtimes or days of the week handwritten in the bottom area, and many likely look like they did when they were first sent to the theater! There have been several "finds" of glass slides over the many years we have been auctioning, but this is surely one of the greatest ever and it is a wonderful opportunity to purchase some or many of these extreme rarities! Also note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: fair. There is a long uneven crack in the left of the glass. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition, but, of course, consider this before bidding on this.
