An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded International One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Poseidon Adventure, the classic 1972 Ronald Neame & Irwin Allen high seas ocean liner disaster action adventure thriller ("Hell, Upside Down"; "At midnight on New Year's Eve the S.S. Poseidon was struck by a 90 foot tidal wave and capsized"; "Who will survive - in one of the greatest escape adventures ever!"; "In the early morning hours of January 1st, the S.S. Poseidon en route from New York to Athens was struck by a 90 foot tidal wave and capsized..."; "From the novel by Paul Gallico") starring Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Red Buttons, Carol Lynley, Roddy McDowall, Stella Stevens, Shelley Winters (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Jack Albertson, Pamela Sue Martin, Arthur O'Connell, Eric Shea, Leslie Nielsen ("as The Captain"), and "Combining the Talents of 15 Academy Award Winners". Note that artist Mort Kunstler (whose work is seen on many posters for this film) mentions that he was instructed to capture the spirit of the movie, and to be sure to draw the different actors in size and prominence according to their contracts!

Artist: Mort Kunstler
Important Added Info: Note that this poster was stamped "FOR" which means it was printed for use outside the United States (there would also have been posters stamped "DOM" for use within the United States). Often, the "FOR" posters would have a different (sometimes racier) image than that for the one used in the United States.

Note that this is one of 188 folded one-sheets in this Part IV of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction that were consigned to us by legendary French dealer/collector Dominique Besson (we auctioned 993 of his folded one-sheets in Part I of this auction, and we auctioned his 113 unfolded one-sheets in Part III, and now we are auctioning his final 188 folded one-sheets in this Part IV).

Dominique Besson started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since! But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world! Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions! After Part IV closes, we will have auctioned all of this collection.

Condition: good to very good. There is minor fold and border wear. There is fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines (typical of high-gloss posters of this period) and there is some minor separation in the upper crossfold.
