An Original Vintage Theatrical Kraftbacked Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 26" x 40" [66 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) John Smith, the 1922 Victor Heerman silent Selznick crime prison romantic melodrama ("By Victor Heerman"; about a man who is sentenced to prison and upon his release takes the alias name "John Smith" due to his embarrassment and inability to find work; he falls in love with a beautiful young secretary, but cannot bring himself to tell her about his criminal past!) starring Eugene O'Brien (in the title role as John Smith), Vivia Ogden, William J. Ferguson, Tammany Young, Estar Banks and Mary Astor. Note that this was Mary Astor's first credited feature role (after several shorts and bit parts the previous year). She had just turned 16, and yet she played the secretary the lead actor falls in love with, and she is pictured on the one-sheet! Of course she would go on to a long and illustrious career, but THIS is where she got her start! Also note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie (only one glass slide) until we were consigned this poster! Note also that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 26" x 40" [66 x 102 cm]. Also note that this poster has been kraftbacked, which means it was backed onto a brown paper soon after it was printed (this process is called "kraft-backing", and posters with it are called "kraft-backed"). One could have it professionally removed from the kraft paper and linenbacked, and it would look great! Condition: good to very good. The poster was slightly trimmed and then kraftbacked (see above). It has some pinholes and small stains around the edges and some smudges and scuffs scattered in the image. It can be displayed as it is or removed from the kraftbacking and restored, but bear the above in mind and look at our super-sized image before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
