We Need Him and You Too!, the 1910s U.S. World War I (WWI) military recruitment poster ("U.S. Navy"; "'Here he is, Sir'"; "Navy Recruiting Station"; "Courtesy of Life") encouraging men to enlist in the Navy, and featuring Charles Dana Gibson art of a woman bringing her son to Uncle Sam to enlist. Note that this poster may have been printed by Life magazine.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Artist: Charles Dana Gibson
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this war poster, and one of those has now been reconsigned to us, so it is still only one of three examples we have ever auctioned! Also note that this poster was used at a specific recruiting station, so they had it overprinted with their location at the bottom (that space was left blank when the posters were printed, specifically to allow for overprinting).

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tears in the top and bottom borders, some of which had tiny paper loss along parts of the tears, and they extended into the words at top and bottom. There were two long tears at the top that extended into the top of both men's heads. There was one long tear near the center of the bottom border that extended through the bottom of the woman's dress to the waist of the man at right. There were small tears near the middle of the bottom of the woman's dress. There were smaller tears and some tiny paper loss in the left and right of the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone many years ago mounted the poster onto a thin linen and performed very amateur restoration. If I owned this excellent poster, I would surely have it removed from the old linen and properly restored, and afterwards, it will display really well, but bear the above in mind before bidding on this poster.
