Date Sold 8/25/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More) Dream Street, the 1921 D.W. Griffith (billed as "David Wark Griffith") silent London England romantic comedy (about a music hall dancer who has three admirers, one a singer who is a bully, one a timid composer, and one a "Chinaman" who runs a gambling den, and after many adventures, including a murder, she ends up with one of them) starring Carol Dempster, Charles Emmett Mack, Ralph Graves, Morgan Wallace, Tyrone Power Sr, and Charles Fang (as the "Chinaman"). Note that there is a very interesting footnote in history for this movie. Six years before The Jazz Singer was officially the "first" part-talking movie, THIS movie had talking sequences! There was a prologue narrated by D.W. Griffith, where he was seen and heard telling the audience about the movie, and then there were two sound sequences within the film (one with Ralph Graves singing, and one with crowd noises during a craps game). This was on a special disc that was synchronized to the film, and was only used when the movie was shown in New York City (and likely it was because of the difficulties of synchronizing the sound that this did not catch on, and why it would be six years before talking movies really took off!).
