An Autographed 4 1/2" x 5 3/4" [11 x 15 cm] Cut Album Page (Learn More) Vera Hruba was a Czechoslovakian ice skater who started in movies performing her ice skating routines, and her English was so limited she was forced to learn her lines phonetically! After her early ice skating movies, she became the protege of Republic Pictures studio head Herbert Yates, and they married in 1952. He starred her in a series of movies, and gave her an added a last name, "Ralston", making her "Vera Hruba Ralston", and later dropped the "Hruba", just becoming "Vera Ralston", and I guess the idea was to make her sound less "foreign". Some of her movies include: Timberjack, The Fighting Kentuckian, and Ice-Capades. Her movies were expensive flops (even with John Wayne in some!), partially because she had a VERY thick accent, and Yates was fired from Republic in 1958 (partially because he insisted on starring his wife in movies that lost money), at which point Ralston wisely retired. Yates passed away in 1966 and Ralston inherited $10 million, and she lived until 2003, passing away at the age of 79 AND Elliott Nugent was a director from the 1930s to the 1950s. Some of his movies included: My Favorite Brunette, She Loves Me Not, Splendor, The Cat and the Canary, and The Great Gatsby. He passed away in 1980 at the age of 83. Important Added Info: This cut album page has been personally autographed (signed) by BOTH Vera Ralston AND Elliott Nugent (each person signed one side of the page)! It could be matted with a vintage or repro still and framed together to make a cool display (of course, the new owner would have to choose which side to display!). Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signatures to likely be authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
