A 1948 Re-Release Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Edgar Allan Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue, the 1932 Robert Florey Universal crime horror mystery thriller ("The Super Shocker"; "Based on the Edgar Allan Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue"; set in Paris) starring Bela Lugosi (billed as "Dracula himself"; as Dr. Mirakle), Sidney Fox (billed as "Star of 'Strictly Dishonorable'"), Leon Ames (billed as "Leon Waycoff"), Bert Roach, Brandon Hurst, Noble Johnson (as Janos, The Black One), D'arcy Corrigan, Arlene Francis, Iron Eyes Cody, Joe Bonomo (famous early strongman, as one of the gorillas, and he also played a gorilla in 1929's "King of the Kongo"!), and Charles Gemora (as Erik the Gorilla; and amazingly, he reprised this role when the movie was remade by Warner Bros in 1954, 22 years later!). Note that this movie is considered to have been the consolation prize for Florey and Lugosi after they were replaced as director and star on "Frankenstein" by Universal. Note that starting in 1929 and continuing into the 1940s, Charles Gemora played gorillas in many movies, likely because he owned a gorilla suit, and could do a somewhat convincing job portraying a gorilla. Just a few years later, Ray 'Crash' Corrigan would also start playing gorillas, and no doubt they competed for roles in every movie requiring a gorilla!

Important Added Info: Note that a previous owner of this card glued two pieces of paper to the back of the card, which identify the card on one and the collector's name on the other. Fortunately, those pieces of paper do not affect the front at all, and they could be removed using a product like Bestine. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good. There are several pieces of masking tape on the back of the borders, repairing tears and covering paper loss, and someone taped a piece of yellow paper to the back of paper loss in the top right corner. It has two pieces of paper glued to the back (see above), but they do not affect the front. Please look at our super-sized images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this card.
