An Original Vintage Japanese Campaign Book (measures 6" x 8 1/4" [15 x 21 cm]; 60 pages). Also included is a supplement that has 8 pages (measures 5 3/4" x 8 3/4"; unfolds to a poster that measures 17 1/2" x 23") (Learn More) Toho 1957, the Japanese export campaign book ("Excellent! Exciting! Exotic!") made in 1957 by the Toho Films company to let U.S. theaters know what Japanese movies they had available for export! The book contains 28 different movies, some of which were newly made, but many of which dated back as far as a few years, surely because many of these movies, even the most classic ones, had received slight or no distribution in the U.S., and the Toho company knew there was a great potential market for them throughout the U.S. Each of the movies receives two pages with cast information and a plot synopsis, together with images from the movie, and several of them are in color. Included are many of Toho's greatest movies, including Seven Samurai, Rodan, and Godzilla. At the end of the book is a 4-page list of the pictures, which gives the length of each, together with the English language and Japanese language titles, and more information, and in addition, it is noted that "English subtitles can be attached". Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this wonderful export campaign book. But in addition, it also comes with a wonderful supplement, which is a fold-out map of the Toho studios, with images of all their stars and much more about the studio. The chances of us ever auctioning the campaign book itself are very remote, but the chances of finding another with the great supplement is probably close to zero! Note: We have 17 images of the campaign books in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 17 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 7. Note that this campaign book was printed in Japan, but was intended to be used when the movie was shown in English speaking countries. Condition: very good.
