8 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Moon Over Miami, the 1941 Walter Lang Florida Everglades romantic musical ("Adaptation by George Seaton and Lynn Starling from a play by Stephen Powys"; "Lyrics and Music by Leo Robin & Ralph Rainger"; about two Texas girls losing an inheritance because of taxes and they travel to Miami to find rich husbands) starring Don Ameche, Betty Grable, Robert Cummings (Bob Cummings), Charlotte Greenwood, Jack Haley, Carole Landis, Cobina Wright Jr., Fortunio Bonanova, and Jack Cole. Note that Alberto Vargas did the artwork for the cover of the pressbook and the 24-sheet only on this movie, and both bear his signature. The pressbook explains that Vargas was commissioned to paint this image. Nowhere does it state that he did any of the other art for the movie, even though one of the one-sheets and the insert are often described as being Vargas art. It is my opinion that they are NOT drawn by Vargas, and certainly the pressbook backs that up.

Important Added Info: Note that this a very rare complete set of lobby cards for this movie (we have never auctioned a complete set of cards for this title in all of our years of auctioning!). Note also that the artist who drew the great art of Grable on the title card is unknown, but based on what we wrote above, we feel it is surely not by Alberto Vargas. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Condition: good to very good. The title card and the card pictured below it have some very faint tape staining in each corner. The title card has a few tiny brown dot stains at upper center and the other card has some of the faint tape staining extend into the upper left image area. The card to the right of the title card has tape staining in the left corners and a small tear at upper left. The card below it has deterioration and paper loss around the edges and surface paper loss in portions of the image, all due to exposure to moisture at one time (see our image - it is in lesser condition). The card with Greenwood at left (as the maid) in our second image has some glue staining on the back of the corners that has little or no effect on the front, however, there is some blank border loss at upper left caused by rough removal. The card pictured to its right has tiny pinholes in the upper blank corners and some tape staining in the left corners. The two cards pictured below those cards both have a few tears and areas of paper loss in the left blank border only (those areas are slightly fragile.) With the exception of the one card mentioned above, most of the few defects of these cards are in the blank borders or edges and overall the images on the cards in this rare complete set are in nice condition and none of the cards have any tape on the front or back, and they never have had any restoration of any kind!
