A Set of 10 2021 "Faux" Lobby Cards (measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]; see below) (Learn More)

The Big Sleep, the classic 1946 Howard Hawks romantic crime film noir ("The picture they were born for!"; "A Warner hit!!!"; "From the novel by Raymond Chandler"; "Screen Play by William Faulkner, Leigh Brackett & Jules Furthman") starring Humphrey Bogart (as Philip Marlowe), Lauren Bacall, John Ridgely, Martha Vickers, Dorothy Malone, Louis Jean Heydt, Charles Waldron, Charles D. Brown, Bob Steele, Tom Fadden, and Ben Welden. Note that not only did this movie have the direction of Howard Hawks and the great star power of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, but it also had the brilliant Raymond Chandler source novel, and a screenplay written by three great writers: Faulkner, Brackett, and Furthman! AND The Maltese Falcon, the classic 1941 John Huston romantic detective crime film noir ("A story as explosive as his blazing automatics"; "Based on the novel by Dashiell Hammett, Author of 'The Thin Man'"; "Screen Play by John Huston"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Humphrey Bogart (as Sam Spade), Mary Astor (as Brigid O'Shaughnessy), Gladys George (as Iva Archer), Peter Lorre (as Joel Cairo), Barton MacLane (as Lt. Dundy), Lee Patrick (as Effie), Sydney Greenstreet (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Kasper Gutman), Ward Bond (as Tom Polhaus), Jerome Cowan (as Miles Archer), and Elisha Cook Jr. (as Wilmer Cook, the "gunsel"). Note that this was the SECOND re-make of this movie (it had been made in 1931 under the original title, and in 1936 as "Satan Met a Lady", starring Bette Davis in the lead role, but it was THIS version by John Huston, with his screenplay that closely followed the Dashiell Hammett novel, with superlative acting, which is an all-time classic) Note that some of the U.S. posters for this movie used images of Bogart from the 1941 film "High Sierra" (the same is true of some posters for "All Through the Night"!). Note that in all three of these movies (The Maltese Falcon, All Through the Night, and High Sierra), Humphrey Bogart only got the lead part because George Raft turned down the lead in all three!
Important Added Info: Note that this is one of 68 "faux" lobby card sets we were consigned, which we are auctioning in 68 separate auctions! They were created in 2021 by a long time collector who (like so many of us) chose to stay home this year a lot due to Covid, and he made these to help pass the time! He was inspired by the "Fantasy #9 lobby cards created several decades ago, each of which is from a classic horror/sci-fi movie, showing a great scene that wasn't in the original set!

Similarly, our consignor created these 68 sets, using top images from each film! He did not make these through a computer program, but instead pasted together actual prints to create mock-ups. On most of these he make 8 card sets, but on a number of them he created sets with 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13! He then printed just THREE of each set, and he won't be reprinting them. He numbered the first card in each set, and what we are offering here is the "1 of 3" of this set, which means there are only two other sets, and there will never be more.

Our consignor will permanently keep one of the three of each, but MAY give us the remaining set at a later time to auction. But the winner of this auction will have one of just three of these numbered sets that were created!

Condition: fine. These faux lobby cards are in excellent condition!
