An Original Vintage Unfolded Circus Poster (measures 20 1/2" x 27") (Learn More) Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus, a circa 1950s circus poster featuring a cool artwork image of the high wire balancing act "The Great Alzanas" ("The Greatest Show on Earth"; "The Great Alzanas World Renowned High Wire Daredevils"). The 1950s date we give to it is purely a guess, based on the image and the quality of the printing and the age of the paper. We have determined that there was an act called "The Great Alzanas" in the late 1940s and 1950s, starring George Alzana and his sisters, and they DID do the stunt pictured on this poster! If anyone knows more about this circus act or this poster, please contact us and we will post it here. The modern version of the circus started in 1919 when the Barnum & Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, a circus created by P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey, was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows. With weakening attendance and high operating costs, the circus closed on May 21st, 2017 after 146 years. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. There is a 2" tear in the middle of the left border and a 1" tear above that, and a few tiny tears and some paper loss in the top of the left blank border. Other than the above and a pinhole in each corner, and two tiny circular holes in the lower red background area, the poster is in pretty nice condition, especially considering its age!
