An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Violent is the Word for Curly, the 1938 Charley Chase (primarily remembered as a great silent comedian who appeared in 276 movies, most of them comedy shorts, Chase also directed 140 comedy shorts) mistaken identity college slapstick comedy short ("They're cracked in the cranium... on a cuckoo campus!"; about three gas station attendants who are mistaken for college professors, with predictably zany results) starring The Three Stooges (Curly Howard, Larry Fine, Moe Howard), Eddie Fetherston, Marjorie Deanne, and Gladys Gale NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet, and we first auctioned it 33 years ago and then re-auctioned it 30 years ago (where it sold for $9,775!). Also note that 1930s Three Stooges posters are many times more rare than 1940s Three Stooges posters! We have previously auctioned 62 1940s Three Stooges one-sheets, but other than the one example of this one-sheet we previously auctioned, we have only ever auctioned four other 1930s Three Stooges one-sheets! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. It had three 1 1/2" vertical scratches in the lower left, in the bottom of the inset image, where the man's arm meets the car. It had approximately half of each blank border trimmed off, but only blank white paper was affected. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The person who backed the poster did a very nice job, and they added back the missing part of each blank border really nicely, and it is not at all noticeable, and this ultra rare poster will display wonderfully on its new owner's wall!
