Date Sold 3/24/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan Carries On, the 1931 Hamilton MacFadden mystery crime thriller ("Scotland Yard is baffled but Charlie Chan Carries On"; based on the novel "by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Warner Oland (as Charlie Chan), John Garrick, Marguerite Churchill, Warren Hymer, Marjorie White, William Holden (no, not THAT William Holden, but another actor of the same name who made 20 movies between 1920 and 1931, and he died the next year, which was 7 years before the more famous William Holden made his first movie!), and George Brent. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought this movie, "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the very first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1931 movie paper from this Charlie Chan movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single poster from this movie (and only two lobby cards, and those were 22 years ago!) until we received this lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. The card has a 1" tear with tiny surface paper loss along the tear near the center of the bottom border. It has creases running up to the left and right of it (see our image). There is a pinhole in each corner and a diagonal crease in the top right corner. There are some faint smudges scattered throughout the card. While this card displays well as it is, it is the sort of card that responds really well to professional restoration. If it has restoration (whether it is gel-backed or paperbacked), it will look fantastic afterwards! Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
