An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" [19 x 25 cm] English Movie Still (Learn More) Give Us This Day (released in the U.S. as "Salt to the Devil"), the 1949 Edward Dmytryk English melodrama ("From the novel that stirred the world... 'Christ in Concrete' by Pietro Di Donato"; a very depressing story about an Italian immigrant in New York City who pretends to own a house so that his girlfriend will marry him, but actually, he lives in a tenement, and through the years, they never escape it, until he starts to exploit his co-workers, which results in the death of his best friend and in his resulting despair, he cheats on his wife) starring Sam Wanamaker, Lea Padovani, Kathleen Ryan, Bonar Colleano, and Charles Goldner. Note that this movie was based on a novel called "Christ in Concrete", and it was made in England, and called "Give Us This Day", after the Bible quote, but when it was released in the U.S., it was given the more commercial title "Salt to the Devil". Note that it was quite common for movies filmed in Hollywood or New York to be set in England, but this was an incredibly rare case of a movie filmed in England that was set in New York City! It wasn't done to save money. It was because director Edward Dmytryk, who was one of the "Hollywood Ten", had been blacklisted in Hollywood, and he went to England to film this movie, but he kept its original New York City setting, thus causing him to have to recreate New York City in England! The film was barely shown in the U.S., both because of his blacklisting, and because of the perceived "anti-Christian" theme of the movie. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" still for this English movie! Also note that this English still measures 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" [19 x 25 cm], but it has not been trimmed. It shows director Edward Dmytryk and crew members standing by the camera and setting up the shot. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
