An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Love (released in other countries as "Anna Karenina"), the 1927 Edmund Goulding silent Russia nobility romantic love triangle melodrama ("The stars of 'Flesh and the Devil' - together again!"; the first MGM adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina"; the studio wanted a more glamorous title, and they pretty much threw away most of the novel as well, but the fans just wanted to see Garbo and Gilbert together) starring John Gilbert, Greta Garbo (as Anna Karenina), George Fawcett, Emily Fitzroy, Brandon Hurst, and Philippe De Lacy. Note that the source novel ends tragically, but MGM was afraid that would be too depressing for American audiences, so they filmed two endings to the movie, and used the original ending for the European release, but had a silly "happy ending" for the American release, where Garbo and Gilbert's characters end up happily married! Also note that the movie was remade nine years later under its original title, and this time it was much more faithful to the book, with Garbo again in the lead role, playing opposite Fredric March.
