He first rose to fame with hillbilly radio routines including "What It Was, Was Football" and "Romeo and Juliet", before finding great success on TV. While his most defining roles were in TV's "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Matlock", he also guest starred in numerous other TV shows and had some fine movie appearances including: A Face in the Crowd, No Time For Sergeants, and Waitress.
