eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 9j0762 HAM & EGGS AT THE FRONT LC 1927 Zanuck's racist movie w/ Myrna Loy in blackface, ultra rare! Date Sold 8/3/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Ham & Eggs at the Front, the 1927 Roy Del Ruth black African American World War I (WWI) romantic screwball comedy ("A comedy riot"; "Based on the story by Darryl Francis Zanuck"; an amazingly racist movie that stars two black African American soldiers in World War I, and to make matters worse, both are played by white actors in blackface; the plot has the soldiers stranded in France, and they meet black French girl, Fifi, who is played by Myrna Loy, also in blackface, and the two men vie for her affections, but she turns out to be a German spy!) starring Tom Wilson (a large white man who specialized in playing black roles in the early silent days when studios were reluctant to hire African Americans; he would put burnt cork on his face and skin!; he appeared in The Kid, but not in a black role; in the title role as Ham), Heinie Conklin (in the title role as Eggs), Myrna Loy, William Irving, and Noah Young. Note that it is a sad footnote in film history that Darryl F. Zanuck wrote this sorry racist movie, and in later years, he was one of the leaders in fighting against prejudice and intolerance, making both "Pinky" and "Gentleman's Agreement" (perhaps in part to atone for writing this movie)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a title card and a glass slide from this movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this scene lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair to good. There is paper loss in the bottom right blank corner and tiny paper loss in two other corners. There are pinholes and stains around the edges, with a 1" tear in the left of the bottom border. Obviously, this wonderful card can be restored, and since most of the defects are in the borders, it will look great after restoration! Learn More about condition grades
