It was established by state order of the Third Republic in 1878 to take over ten small failing railway companies operating in the area between the rivers Loire and Garonne. In 1938, all French railway companies merged to form SNCF (Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais - the French National Railway). Artist: E. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had a 5" vertical tear near the center of the top border, running into the image background. It had a long diagonal crease in the top right corner of the image background. It had a few small tears and tiny paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
