LAST OF MRS. CHEYNEY ('29) LAST OF MRS. CHEYNEY ('29) WC, regular OR search current auctions Auction History Result 7y0273 LAST OF MRS. CHEYNEY WC 1929 great art of man helping Norma Shearer steal jewels, rare! Date Sold 3/16/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 12" x 16" [30 x 41 cm]) (Learn More) The Last of Mrs. Cheyney, the 1929 Sidney Franklin romantic love triangle crime comedy ("All talking"; based on the play by Frederick Lonsdale; about an American widow in England, who is pursued by two rich Englishmen, but they are unaware she is actually a jewel thief!) starring Norma Shearer, (in the title role as Fay Cheyney), Basil Rathbone (in his seventh credited movie role!), Herbert Bunston, George Barraud, Hedda Hopper, Moon Carroll, Madeline Seymour, and Maude Turner Gordon. Note that this movie was remade in 1937 starring Joan Crawford, and this first version is completely forgotten today, except by major film buffs, and movie paper of any kind from it is incredibly rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card! The window card has been trimmed and it now measures 12" x 16" [30 x 41 cm] (see below). Condition: fair. The card was found in the back of a frame where it had been used as a backing board for a picture (many framers in the 1920s and 1930s would use window cards for this purpose, and they would trim them to the size of the frame, not caring that they were cutting into the image!). In this case, the trimming, which was to 12" x 16", affects the right and blank top of the card, and you can see what is missing by looking at our image. Because we have sold the card before, we know that the 2" missing from the right includes a curtain, but we can provide the winning bidder a scan of the one we previously auctioned so that a restorer could replace it, if the new owner chooses (but, since most of the title, image, and credits remain, I would think many people could display this card as is). Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored. Learn More about condition grades
