Date Sold 9/15/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1934 Re-release Vintage Theatrical Folded Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81") (Learn More) Desert Vengeance, the 1931 Louis King romantic cowboy western melodrama ("The screen's greatest outdoor star in a breath-taking all dialog western!"; this was unusual for Buck Jones, because he does not play a hero!; rather he is an outlaw who gets swindled by a husband and wife team who pose as brother and sister, and when he discovers what they did, he virtually imprisons them, and treats them terribly!) starring Buck Jones ("The screen's greatest outdoor star!"), Barbara Bedford, Douglas Gilmore, Edward Brady, Albert J. Smith, Bob Fleming, and Slim Whitaker. Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that Buck Jones was signed away from Fox by Columbia at the end of the 1920s, and he made many westerns for Columbia starting in 1929. By 1934, Jones was far and away Columbia's greatest western star, and they re-released his best earlier westerns, and they created entirely new (and often better) stone litho one-sheets and three-sheets for those 1934 re-releases, all of which had different images from the first release. They are also full color, and could easily pass for first release, except for the 1934 copyright in the bottom left corner. Over the years, I have seen many examples of 1934 re-release Buck Jones posters where the date in the bottom left corner was either altered or removed, and then the poster was sold as an original! Note that this three-sheet was printed in 3 sections. Condition: good. The poster has lots of creases, tears, and small areas of paper loss along most foldlines and around the edges, where there are also pinholes. The poster is somewhat fragile. The poster is mostly "all there", and after linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will look great, and will likely not need very much paint restoration within the image. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its very significant defects and are willing to pay to have them properly restored! Learn More about condition grades
