An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 10 3/4" x 16" [27 x 41 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) The Life of the Party, the 1920 Joseph Henabery silent politics corruption slapstick comedy ("America's funniest comedian stars in it!"; "From the story by Irvin S. Cobb" about a woman who is fighting to have women nurse their babies rather than buy bottled milk, and she goes to a judge to help her organization, not knowing he is in the pay of the milk company, and she gets an attorney to help her, and he seems incompetent, but he not only ends up helping her win, but he also becomes mayor and wins her hand in marriage) starring Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle ("By arrangement with Joseph M. Schenck"), Winifred Greenwood, Roscoe Karns, Julia Faye, and Frank Campeau. The title of this movie is sadly very ironic, because Fatty Arbuckle is referred to as "The Life of the Party". Just one year after this movie was made, Arbuckle, at the height of his fame, hosted a Hollywood party later referred to as "The Wild Party", where up-and-coming actress Virginia Rappe died, and Arbuckle was tried for her murder, and even though he was acquitted several times, it ruined his career. If only he hadn't been the "life" of THAT party, he would have surely had a very long and successful career. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned any movie paper from this movie until we received this pressbook! Also note that this is one of a pretty remarkable group of 12 incredibly rare pressbooks that date from 1917 to 1920! This is from the time period when pressbooks were first made, and it is even before the time that inserts or half-sheets were made! Pressbooks from this time period are among the rarest movie paper collectibles there are. These were all consigned to us from a man who collected for many decades, and it is a far greater number of pressbooks from this period than we have ever auctioned in all our years of auctioning! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Condition: fair, WITH CUTS. There is a large cut on page 3/4 and the pressbook is folded across the middle. There is some pencil writing on the front cover and some tears at the top of the back cover. Obviously, one would prefer to find this without the cut out, but any pressbook from any Fatty Arbuckle movie is beyond rare, and the rest of the pressbook contains wonderful material and images of the posters.
