An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Mexican Movie Poster (measures approximately 27" x 37" [69 x 94 cm]) (Learn More) Dona Diabla (released in the U.S. in 1950 in Los Angeles, likely in a film festival, but then given a wider release in the U.S. in 1960, re-titled "Mark of the Devil"; the movie was released in 1950 in the United Kingdom as "The Devil is a Woman"), the 1950 Tito Davison Mexican romantic blackmail melodrama (about a woman who is a master at seducing men and becoming wealthy in the process, sometimes with disastrous results for the men and women involved) starring Maria Felix, Victor Junco, Perla Aguiar, Jose Maria Linares-Rivas, Crox Alvarado, and Dalia Iniguez NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Jose Espert Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this Mexican poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Mexican movie, and that was 8 years ago, when it sold for $3,877, which is certainly may well be the record for the highest priced Mexican poster ever sold at auction (if it is not the record, it is surely close)! Note that this is one of a remarkable collection of 81 Mexican posters we are currently auctioning (in 81 separate auctions). They include many of the absolute best ones, including many Cabrals, and were assembled by a single collector over many years! This is a rare opportunity to add one or more of these posters to your collection! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had darkened somewhat around the edges (typical of Mexican posters from this period). It had tiny paper loss and a few creases and scuffs on parts of the folds (some of those may have been acquired after the poster was backed), along with some small scuffs in the lower right black area. There was tiny paper loss in the middle of the bridge of Felix's nose. The most important thing about this poster is that it has ink transfer in her hair in both the upper left and upper right (transfer from the letters at the bottom, and this either occurred when the poster was folded or a printing defect of some other kind). We strongly suspect that when the poster was backed, the restorer covered the ink transfer in the upper left and right with restoration paint that hid it at that time, but that since that occurred, the restoration paint has become noticeable again. If I owned this great and rare poster, I would surely have a top professional re-restore those areas with the ink transfer (and the few other defects in the rest of the poster), and after proper restoration, it will display really well, but bear the above in mind and look at our super-sized image before bidding on this poster.
