A Set of 5 Original Vintage Die-Cut English Magazine Promotional Movie Cards (each measures 3 1/2" x 5") (Learn More)

The Lost City, the 1920 E.A. Martin silent Africa jungle lost civilization fantasy action adventure serial ("A wild animal serial of continuous thrills"; "In 15 sensational episodes"; "Fifteen sensational episodes"; "The Lost City of the African Jungle"; "Story by Frederick Chapin") starring Juanita Hansen, George Chesebro, Frank Clark, Hector Dion, and Irene Wallace. Note that this was one of the earliest Warner Bros. movies. Their advertising claimed that it was actually filmed in Africa, but it was not. However, the Warner Bros. borrowed the wild animals from the Selig Zoo, and it was one of the very first movies to use actual wild animals in its filming (and also one of the first to have a beautiful white princess of a lost civilization!). It reportedly cost over $1,000,000 to produce!

Important Added Info: Note that in 2015, we were consigned four cards from this series (see below), which we sold as a group, and they auctioned for $130. The five cards offered here are all different from those four! These great die-cut cards from this very early Warner Bros. movie were part of a promotion done in English cinemas when the movie was first released. There were a total of 18 of these cards. Theatergoers were told that they should collect all 18 and then bring them back to the cinema, where they would be told how the competition worked! We suspect they were passed out on street corners like heralds. Each has an area where they could be folded near the bottom so they could be displayed as stand up displays or "mini standees".

Condition: good to very good. Each of the promo cards was creased near the bottom to make them into "mini standees" (see above). They also have some wear around the edges but have survived pretty well, especially considering they are 95 years old!
