A Vintage Italian Travel Poster (measures 24 1/2" x 39 1/2" [62 x 100 cm]) (Learn More)

Venezia (literally translates to "Venice"), the 1951 (and perhaps later, see below) Italian travel poster encouraging people to visit the city of Venice in Italy, and featuring A.M. Cassandre artwork of a gondolier traveling through the city's canals. Note that the artist originally created this work for the Venice Graphic Design Conference in 1951. That organization and the Italian Tourist Bureau (ENIT) used this artwork for several years, so it is uncertain whether the few posters that survive are from 1951 or from the early 1950s. So to err on the side of caution, we are identifying this as being from the "1950s", although it could be from 1951. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Artist: A.M. Cassandre
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Italian travel poster!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POSTER WAS MOUNTED ON TO FOAMCORE, AND CAN ONLY BE REMOVED BY A PROFESSIONAL. IT WILL NEED TO BE SENT IN A VERY LARGE FLAT PACKAGE THAT MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 27" x 42", SO PLEASE DO NOT BID ON IT UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THAT IT IS MOUNTED ON TO FOAMCORE AND THAT IT WILL COST FAR MORE TO SEND THAN IF IT WERE FOLDED OR ROLLED. Also note that our consignor purchased this poster together with genuine European travel posters from the 1950s, and he and we feel sure that this is an original, but it could be from 1951 or from the next few years (see above).

Condition: good. THE POSTER IS MOUNTED TO FOAMCORE (see above). It has a diagonal crease in the lower left and a horizontal crease 4" from the top of the poster. It has some scuffs scattered down the right side and a few others in the image. If I owned this poster, I would surely have it professionally removed from the foamcore and properly linenbacked, and after which, it will display wonderfully, but that will be the choice of the new owner of this cool power. Please do not bid on it unless you can accept the above defects.
