An Undated (probably 1929) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Night Rider, the 1920 silent cowboy western burlesque sex short subject ("See and Hear"; "Hello Sucker"; "A burlesque revival of western thrillers") starring Texas Guinan ("Queen of the Night Clubs"). If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that an extremely knowledgable expert on Texas Guinan informs us that we made a mistake in assuming the IMDb knows much of anything about Texas Guinan! The IMDb says that Texas Guinan made 13 silent movies, when this expert informs that she actually made "at least 56 silent films". According to this expert, "She started with Triangle Film Corp in 1917 where she made 4 films including The Gun Woman. Then she went to Frohman Amusement where she made 13 films, possibly more, then she went to ReelCraft/BullsEys again making 13 films including The Night Rider which was directed by Therdo Joos in 1920. She then made 3-5 films for Victor Kremer Productions and then started her own production company where she made 12 films on her own. In 1929 Melody Distributors rereleased some of her films with sound added. These included Fighting the Vigilantes, Girl of the Rancho, Lady of the Law, Letters of Fire, Moonshine Feud, My Lady Robinhood, Night Rider, Not Guilty, and White Squaw."
So this poster is indeed from 1929, but the movie WAS originally entitled "The Night Rider", and it was made in 1920. It is not a re-titling, but the original title of the movie, one of at least 56 silent movies made by Texas Guinan. Condition: very good. The poster had a tear running down the left of the vertical foldline 1/2" to the left of the vertical foldline, running from the bottom of Guinan's hat down to 1/2" below her eye and another tear 1/2" to the left of the middle fold running from the top of Guinan's neck down to the middle foldline. There was a 5" tear running down the middle of Guinan's hat an into the top of her hair. There were a few pinholes in the left edge of Guinan's hat and there was tiny paper loss at the top and bottom crossfolds. There was paper loss at the left and right ends of the middle foldline extending into the solid background area and slightly into the "rope" on the right side. There were some other smaller areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. A long time ago, someone had put clear tape on the back of the poster over the above tears. Because this is an important and rare poster, the person who did the restoration spent a great deal of time carefully removing the clear tape from the reverse, and then very carefully restoring the tears and areas of paper loss described above. They also put new blank white paper over all the borders to even out the appearance (but the small writing at the bottom of the poster was not covered over). This is a common technique used by several top restorers. It is done so well that the majority of collectors are not even aware it has been done, and many do not feel it to be a significant detraction (since it is only blank white area). The restoration was really first rate, and I know that few people would recognize what was done to the poster, even looking at it from inches away, and yet the poster in no way has a "heavily restored" look to it. I would think just about every collector would be quite happy to display this great poster on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
