An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Hell's Highway (also released as "Liberty Road"), the 1932 Rowland Brown chain gang prison camp escape family relationship brothers romantic crime melodrama (about a tough convict in a brutal prison whose kindly brother is also there, and the movie focuses on the awful conditions within the prison) starring Richard Dix, Tom Brown, Rochelle Hudson, C. Henry Gordon, and Oscar Apfel. Note that this movie is completely forgotten today, and most people would likely view it as a rip-off of "I Am A Fugitive From A Chain Gang", but it actually was released two months PRIOR to that classic movie! And it actually bears more resemblance to a movie which clearly heavily borrowed from it, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", including having a group of black convicts who sing spirituals and songs that advanced the plot! It may not seem possible, but this movie is just as depressing as "I Am A Fugitive", and in this movie, the main character is not innocent, but clearly guilty, and the movie is saying that even guilty criminals deserve humane punishment! Hopefully someone will "rediscover" this movie so it can get the recognition it deserves! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
