An Original 1941 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 1/4" x 39 1/2" [69 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Golden Boy, the classic 1939 Rouben Mamoulian romantic family relationship boxing sports melodrama ("The great Broadway stage success ...now a memorable picture!"; "The great love drama that took Broadway by storm!"; "No wonder Broadway took the play to its heart... no wonder it is now a memorable picture!"; "A deeply moving story of youthful love... and broken dreams!"; "A drama of conflict and regeneration... of heartbreak and romance!"; "You've never met such fascinating people..."; "Based upon the Group Theatre play by Clifford Odets"; about a father who wants his son to be a classical violinist, but he turns to boxing, and risks his hands; this movie has been parodied to death!) starring Barbara Stanwyck ("Lorna, she's the dame from Newark"), Adolphe Menjou ("Moody, he loves Lorna"), William Holden (in his first movie ever, and he plays the lead; he was spotted in community theater, and signed to a Hollywood contract at 21!; "Joe Bonaparte, 'Golden Boy', he wants to be a big shot"), Lee J. Cobb (in his first real role; he had some uncredited roles previously; "Papa Bonaparte, he wants his son"), Joseph Calleia ("Fuseli, he wants a champion"), Edward Brophy ("Roxy, he wants the Golden Boy to win"), Sam Levene ("Siggie, he loves the Duchess"), and Beatrice Blinn ("Anna, she loves Siggie") NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Sergio Gargiulo Important Added Info: Note that this Italian one-sheet, which measures 27 1/4" x 39 1/2" [69 x 100 cm], is from the first Italian release of this movie, which could have been in 1939, but we found an Italian site that says it was 1941, and that seems quite possible. It is surely no later than 1941. Note that it is not surprising that the Italian distributor completely ignored William Holden and the boxing angle, solely presenting a wonderful sexy image of Barbara Stanwyck, and re-titling the movie "Passione", implying it was a sexy melodrama like Stanwyck's great earlier 1930s movies! Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good.
