An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 27 1/2" x 42 1/2" [70 x 108 cm]) (Learn More) Blot it Out, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) War Bond poster ("The Hun - his Mark"; "Blot it Out with Liberty Bonds") encouraging citizens to purchase bonds, and featuring J. Allen St. John art of a bloody hand print. Note that J. Allen St. John is the famous pulp magazine illustrator who drew the dust jackets for all of the early Edgar Rice Burroughs "Tarzan" novels, including "Tarzan of the Apes" in 1914! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: J. Allen St. John Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was folded across the middle and there were some tiny bits of paper loss scattered on that fold. There was a small area of paper loss in the white area near the center of the hand print and a small area in the white background above the "r" of "Mark". There were some tears and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking.
