An Original Vintage Theatrical Chapter #1 (The Master Spy) Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Dick Tracy's G-Men, the 1939 John English & William Witney detective action mystery crime serial ("A Republic Serial in 15 Chapters"; "All New Action - All New Thrills!"; "Based on the famous cartoon strip by Chester Gould") starring Ralph Byrd (in the title role as Dick Tracy), Irving Pichel, Ted Pearson, Jennifer Jones (later a world famous actress, but here billed under her given name of "Phylis Isley"; in her second movie!), Walter Miller, and Edmund Cobb. Note that this was the third Dick Tracy movie! It is surprising that it took six years for it to reach the screen in 1937's "Dick Tracy", but once it did, it proved very popular and was followed by three more serials over the next four years, and then after a four year break, the first Dick Tracy feature film was released, which again proved extremely popular, and there were three sequels to that. There were animated cartoons on TV in the 1950s and in 1990, Warren Beatty made a live action movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Chester Gould Important Added Info: Note that full-color chapter 1 cards from this serial are incredibly rare. We have never before auctioned any of the full-color cards from chapter 1, and now we have been consigned this chapter 1 title card! Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. The card had pinholes and a few tears around the edges and many creases, stains, and smudges scattered throughout. A talented restorer gel backed the card (meaning they backed the card onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the card still feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. However, because of the many stains in the card, it required much overprinting in the solid areas, including much of the lettering, so it is "heavily restored". Of course, one would prefer to find a better example of this card, but we have never seen another example, and it might be many years before we see even one more chapter 1 card, much less another title card. But please look closely at our images of the front and back of the card before placing a bid on it. Learn More about condition grades
