A Linenbacked Dutch Travel Poster (measures 24 1/2" x 37 3/4" [62 x 96 cm]) (Learn More)

Holland America Line was founded in Rotterdam and from 1873 to 1989, and it operated as a Dutch shipping line, a passenger line, a cargo line and a cruise line operating primarily between the Netherlands and North America. As part of the company's legacy, it was directly involved in the transport of many hundreds of thousands of emigrants from the Netherlands to North America. It ceased operating as a Dutch line in 1989, when it was purchased by Carnival.
Artist: Dieze
Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned several posters from this company, but we have never auctioned THIS poster!

Note that the ship on this poster is likely the SS Rotterdam (the 5th ship to use that name), which was launched in 1958. The Rotterdam was the last great Dutch "ship of state", employing the finest artisans from the Netherlands in her construction and fitting out process. In 2010, the ship was turned into a combination museum/hotel and school for vocational training.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had some creases, smudges, and scuffs scattered in the image, more so around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
