Date Sold 4/14/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Death on the Diamond, the 1934 Edward Sedgwick St. Louis Cardinals baseball championship sports sabotage crime mystery thriller ("Love finds a way-to Solve the Most Baffling Mystery in Sports History!"; a wacky story of a new pitcher arriving at the St. Louis Cardinals, who is supposed to lead them to winning the World Series, except then somebody starts killing the players one by one!) starring Robert Young, Madge Evans, Nat Pendleton, C. Henry Gordon, Ted Healy (most famous as the person who started The Three Stooges; they were first billed as "Ted Healy and his Stooges"; he let them go on their own, hiring replacement "Stooges", but that did not work out well at all!), and Joe Sawyer. Note that although the team in the movie is the St. Louis Cardinals, the actual baseball scenes were filmed at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles (not the one in Chicago, but the one in Los Angeles where Chicago's minor league team played!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that original vintage movie paper of any kind from this title is incredibly rare! In the past 20 years, we have only sold one single lobby card from this movie and never any posters! Also note that the window card was folded across the center at one time. Because the foldline is not exactly across the center of the card, we don't want to re-fold the window card prior to mailing, because it would not fit in one of our standard mailers, and we believe that re-folding the window card would lessen its condition (we never roll window cards into a tube). If you specifically request it, we will re-fold this window card, but you will not be able to return it. Condition: fair to good. The card was partially folded across the lower third and there are now rough creases and tiny dots of surface paper loss across that area. There is a nail hole in the upper center of the image, in Young's forehead. There are some nail holes in the corners and there is some faint staining scattered through the card. Obviously, one would prefer to find an example of this window card that had no defects, but certainly a talented restorer could perform proper restoration on this card, and I do not know if another example of this card exists (or if it does, if the owner would consider parting with it!).
