An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

The Mighty Treve, the 1937 Lewis D. Collins canine Border Collie sheep dog adventure melodrama ("An adaptation of Albert Payson Terhune's famous novel"; about a sheep dog that is extremely faithful to its owner, but then the owner of the farm where they work accuses the dog of killing sheep and wants to kill it) starring Noah Beery Jr., Barbara Read, Alma Kruger, Samuel S. Hinds, Hobart Cavanaugh, "Tuffy" (in the title role as "The Mighty Treve"), Edmund Cobb, Guy Usher, Julian Rivero, and Erville Alderson. Note that Tuffy the dog was an Australian shepherd/collie mix born in 1930 and surprisingly did not enter movies until the relatively mature age of 5. His owner had trained him to perform an amazing array of tricks, including fetching many objects by name only, and actor Tully Marshall saw him and told his owner to get him into movies. He appeared in movies from 1935 to 1941, reaching star billing in several B-westerns, and he was the star of "The Mighty Treve of Arizona". He suffered a nervous breakdown on the set of "Brigham Young" in 1941, after which he retired, but he made personal appearances at movie theaters showing his movies until 1946, when he passed away at 16! Tuffy may not have been the most famous Hollywood dog, but he was surely among the most talented.
