An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The American Venus, the 1926 Frank Tuttle silent Atlantic City New Jersey romantic Miss America beauty pageant comedy ("See Fay Lanphier [Miss America] and 20 beautiful girls in a fast-moving-peppy story-") starring Esther Ralston, Ford Sterling, Lawrence Gray, Fay Lanphier (billed as "Miss America [Fay Lanphier] winner of the Atlantic City Beauty Contest"), Louise Brooks, and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Note that this movie is set at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and it was made just three years after the pageant began, and the just-crowned Miss America was one of the actresses in the movie! The movie is probably best remembered for the appearance of cult actress Louise Brooks in an early minor role. She was not billed on the posters, but her image DOES appear full-length on the three-sheet! Finally, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist (only two trailers exist). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: HP Important Added Info: Note that the girl in the bottom right corner of the poster somewhat resembles Louise Brooks. But we know that there was a different Miss America contestant in the movie that had her hair cut in a similar style to that which Louise Brooks wore, and we believe that the girl at lower right is not Louise Brooks (Louise Brooks does appear on the three-sheet, and on that poster the likeness is quite striking). Finally, note that the art on this poster is signed "HP". We don't know who this artist is. If anyone does, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that we have only auctioned this poster once, and that was 24 years ago! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and minor wear on the folds. It had a few pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
