An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Undersea Kingdom, the 1936 B. Reeves Eason & Joseph Kane underwater science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy serial ("A Republic Serial in 12 Amazing Episodes"; "Original Story by Tracy Knight - John Rathmell"; about a college graduate, a lady reporter, and a geology professor who search for the source of earthquakes at the bottom of the ocean, and discover the lost civilization of Atlantis, where they intervene between two groups who are fighting to decide who will get to take over the entire Earth) starring Ray 'Crash' Corrigan, Lois Wilde, Monte Blue (as Unga Khan!), William Farnum, Lon Chaney Jr., Lane Chandler, Jack Mulhall, Malcolm McGregor, Lee Van Atta (as the young boy wearing the sailor cap), C. Montague Shaw, and John Merton. Note that this early science fiction thriller included really early robots (among the first in movies!). Note that for this serial, Republic Pictures prepared great full-color artwork one-sheets that were completely different from each other for each of the chapters (at least for the four different ones we have seen!). One wishes that all of the studios had done this for all of the serials. What wonderful posters there would have been! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that Republic Pictures did something very unusual with the posters for this serial. They created wonderful completely different full-color posters for at least the first four chapters of this serial (we have not seen any of the later ones), which was not unusual for them, but what WAS very unusual is that there are two versions of this one-sheet. One has small credits for the entire serial and no chapter information, so we consider that the one-sheet for the entire serial. The other has no small credits, and has "Ep.1. BENEATH THE OCEAN FLOOR" printed in that area, so we consider that the one-sheet for chapter 1. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. The poster offered here is the one for the entire serial. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss scattered just below the bottom horizontal fold, including in many of the letters of the word "Kingdom". It had tiny paper loss at the other two crossfolds, with some creases, small tears, and tiny paper loss along most of the other folds, with a 2" diagonal tear in the top center of the image, in the leg of the horse. It had tears and areas of paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. A talented restorer did a really nice job backing it, and it will display well on the new owner's wall, but you can see slight signs of the restoration. Learn More about condition grades
