An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Brother Orchid, the 1940 Lloyd Bacon gangster-on-the-run crime screwball comedy ("We'd like youse to meet Brother Orchid"; "Based on the Collier's magazine story by Richard Connell"; about a gangster who hides out in a monastery, and pretends to join the order, with great comic results!) starring Edward G. Robinson (in the title role as Little John Sarto/Brother Orchid), Ann Sothern, Humphrey Bogart (in one of his many unsympathetic gangster roles, after making The Petrified Forest, but before Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon), Donald Crisp, Ralph Bellamy, Allen Jenkins, and Paul Guilfoyle NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this first release style B half-sheet! Also note that this poster has never been machine folded! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were machine folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT machine folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Finally, note that because this half-sheet was printed on a slightly heavier paper, it makes far more sense for it to be sent in a large flat package than rolled in a tube, because we are afraid that rolling it could cause damage to it, and we would hate for that to happen! We will only send it rolled in a tube if the buyer insists, and accepts full responsibility in case there is any damage to it. Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It has some creases and smudges around the edges, with a 1 1/2" tear in the lower left border that was repaired with tape from the back. Otherwise, the poster is in surprisingly nice condition!
